The Federal Chancellery supports the Federal Council, Switzerland's seven-member federal government, in preparing for, conducting and following up on its meetings. It manages and coordinates the Federal Council's communications and prepares political planning for the government. The Federal Chancellery also plays a key role in Switzerland's system of direct democracy, organising votes and elections held at federal level. It is the point of contact for initiative or referendum committees and checks whether requests for popular votes or referendums have been successful. The Federal Chancellery is also responsible for digital transformation and for the policy on ICT in the Federal Administration.
