Nestled in the picturesque town of Avenches, a unique and enchanting event awaits: the Avenches Tattoo. The historic town of Avenches in Canton Vaud, with its Roman heritage sites and scenic landscapes, serves as the perfect backdrop for this extraordinary event.

Don't miss this harmonious spectacle of global marching bands

The Avenches Tattoo stands as a testament to the power of music and unity, bringing together high-quality musical and choreographic marching bands - both military and civilian - from across the globe. Don't miss it! This spectacular festival, the only one of its kind in French-speaking Switzerland, promises a harmonious celebration of diversity, rhythm and tradition.

What is a marching band tattoo?

The word "tattoo" in this context is derived from a 17th-century Dutch phrase that was used during the Thirty Years' War and has absolutely no reference to ink decoration on human skin! In Switzerland, the Basel Tattoo is world-renowned, but the most famous tattoo is arguably the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo in the United Kingdom.

Marching bands from all over the world

The Avenches Tattoo is not merely a music festival - it's a grand convergence of cultures and musical excellence. Bands from around the world gather to showcase their impeccable musical talents and breathtaking choreography.

Here's an overview of the participants in Avenches Tattoo 2024:

  • New Zealand Army Band (New Zealand)
  • Swiss Armed Forces Central Band (Switzerland)
  • The Conscript Band of the Finnish Defence Forces (Finland)
  • Musique des Transmissions de Rennes (France)
  • DVS Katwijk (The Netherlands)
  • Massed Pipes And Drums (United Kingdom)
  • Black Diamonds (Switzerland)

As well as a spectacular horse show, there will also be top-notch musical performances. From the rhythmic beats of traditional Swiss drumming to the soul-stirring melodies, the festival's repertoire spans genres and continents.

A military musical and choreographed spectacle

Visitors to the Avenches Tattoo are treated to a sensory extravaganza. As the sun sets and the stars emerge, the festival grounds come alive with elaborate light displays and stunning visuals that complement the performances.

The carefully choreographed routines, synchronised movements and meticulously crafted musical arrangements merge into an unforgettable spectacle that transcends language barriers. It's a feast for the eyes and ears alike, leaving attendees mesmerised and inspired.

Avenches Tattoo stands as a testament to the universality of music and its power to forge connections. Whether you're a die-hard music enthusiast, a tourist in search of unique experiences, or simply someone looking to be captivated by the magic of live performances, this festival promises an unforgettable sensory journey.
