easyJet to launch package holidays for people in Switzerland
As people in Switzerland dream about their favourite holiday destinations for this summer, a new challenger in the vacation market is about to enter the ring. easyJet is set to launch its holiday package service in Switzerland, with the alpine nation becoming just the second country to be given access.
easyJet Holidays to launch in Switzerland in summer 2023
In a statement, easyJet Holidays announced that they will be launching their platform in Switzerland in the summer of 2023 for holidays from early 2024 onwards. The alpine nation becomes only the second nation in the world that can access the service, after it launched in the United Kingdom in 2019.
From this summer, package holidays departing from all major Swiss airports will be made available. All of the holidays will be to one of the over 70 destinations that the airline flies to from Geneva, Basel and Zurich, with more than 4.000 hotels to choose from. Last year, 1,1 million people chose to fly and stay at one of easyJet’s partner hotels, making the company the fastest-growing holiday provider in the UK.
easyJet come to dominate Swiss budget market
When asked why the airline was choosing to expand to Switzerland - a relatively small market compared to their services out of German, Spanish and Dutch airports - a spokesperson told Watson that the move made sense given the airline’s sheer dominance in the Swiss budget market. Especially in Geneva and Basel, the airline has come to dominate holiday routes.
The service will be initially run out of the UK, before the airline starts to offer dedicated jobs in Switzerland. If the European adventure proves a success, the company confirmed that Germany and France will be the next targets for expansion.
