Gigantic Swiss flag to return to the Säntis mountain for National Day
The largest Swiss flag in the world, measuring an enormous 6.400 square metres across, will once again be displayed on the face of the Säntis mountain to mark Swiss National Day on August 1.

After strong gusts of wind made it impossible to unfurl the flag last year, it will hopefully make a welcome reappearance in 2024, so long as the weather cooperates.
All being well, the enormous flag will be unfurled on the northern slope of the Säntis mountain at 10.30am on July 31. It will then provide an impressive backdrop to National Day celebrations, which see many people take the Säntis cable car up the mountain to admire the view.

The flag was made by Heimgartner Fahnen AG in Wil. It took more than 600 hours to sew together 4.330 metres of fabric and 3.500 metres of straps, with more than 60 kilometres of thread! Altogether, the flag is 6.400 square metres across and weighs more than 700 kilograms.
If you’re interested, it’s also possible to sponsor a section of the flag for 99 euros. As a sponsor you’ll also benefit from a free ride up and down the mountain on the cable car on National Day!
