If you are on a date arranged through a dating app or family friend, sometimes it doesn't work out and you feel the urge to just click your fingers and see your date carted away into the distance. Now, a new dating event in LAAX on March 24 will allow you to do just that: introducing, ski lift speed dating!

LAAX to host ski lift dating on March 24

On March 24, the Swiss ski resort, in collaboration with dating platform Noii, will be running the first-ever ski lift dating service. According to 20 Minuten, the organisers see it as a way to get to know someone while enjoying the beautiful view from the cable car. 

Once all participants meet at the Murschetg valley station in LAAX at 2pm, two singles are assigned to each gondola to take the journey up - the only requirement is that you are single and of legal age. At half-station, the partners swap companions for the final journey up to the top of the mountain.

Fun conversation starters and après-ski party planned

To make sure there aren’t too many awkward silences, Noii managing director and co-founder Laura Matter told 20 Minuten that in each gondola, they “have prepared question cards to break the ice.” What's more, a secret challenge to complete has been planned for each car. 

Once at the top, and if you have hit it off with one of your partners, you are encouraged to ski and snowboard together until 4pm - although non-skiers can also take part in the gondola ride. At 4pm, there will be an après-ski party where you can continue your conversations late into the night.

Swiss ski lift dating has been a success in the past, says Noii

Interestingly, this isn’t the first time Noii has put on such an event: in 2022, the company hosted T-bar speed dating, where 300 people got to know each other during the uncomfortable ride up the Rinerhorn in Davos. According to Matter, a number of people continued dating afterwards. "We know that two couples found each other there and are still together," she confirmed.

Those interested in participating in the event can register on the Noii website, although Matter said that some tickets will be available on the day. In addition to the LAAX lift ticket, ski lift dating costs 15 francs per person, although it is free for Noii premium members.
