First major heatwave of the summer forecast in Switzerland
According to meteorologists, a large heatwave is set to hit Switzerland in the coming days, with temperatures rising above 34 degrees Celsius for the first time this summer. After the last of the heavy rainstorms dissipate on Monday, the weather in Switzerland is forecast to be sun, sun and more sun!
34 degrees forecast for cities and holiday resorts in Switzerland
As the school holidays beckon for some cantonal and international schools, Switzerland is set to experience its first heatwave of the summer season. After a cool end to last weekend, temperatures are forecast to ramp up over the working week, reaching above 34 degrees in some areas by Saturday and Sunday.
The hottest places are expected to be in the southern cantons of Ticino and Valais. However, Swiss cities are not going to be let off the hook, with temperatures in Zurich, Lucerne, Bern and Geneva expected to hit 32 degrees by Saturday.
It's the first major heatwave of the summer, so be prepared!
According to MeteoNews, the hot conditions are being caused by an area of high pressure coming in from the west. From Wednesday, Swiss cantons are also set to be baked in extremely warm winds flowing from France, increasing temperatures further.
Of course, if you plan on going out in 30-degree weather, it is best to be prepared by drinking lots of water, applying sunscreen and wearing cool clothing. For those who aren’t huge fans of the heat, this weekend may be the ideal time to try swimming in Swiss rivers and lakes, as the constant sunshine is expected to heat up the major waterways in the coming days.
