23 degrees in October: Unseasonably warm weather in Switzerland this week
The weather in Switzerland is set to be unusually warm this week, with temperatures reaching up to 23 degrees Celsius. It’s not often that the mercury goes above 20 degrees during the autumn, but current temperatures do match the unseasonably warm weather seen in Switzerland throughout 2022.
Warm weather has already arrived in Geneva
The warm weather arrived in Geneva last weekend, with temperatures on Saturday reaching 22 degrees Celsius. Forecasters predict that the mercury in the city could go up to 23 degrees on Monday and Tuesday afternoon, and that nighttime temperatures shouldn't dip much below 12, according to MeteoSwiss.
In Zurich, the story will be pretty similar. Temperatures will go up to around 22 degrees Celsius, with nighttime temperatures roughly the same as in Geneva. For real-time information or forecasts for other Swiss cities, be sure to check out your local weather forecast.
Rain is on the way, but warm temperatures persist
Rain is forecast for later on in the week, so it might be a good idea to take an umbrella and a coat if you’re headed to work, but the weather will still be relatively warm. Top temperatures are forecast to stay above 20 degrees Celsius every day into the coming week.
In higher-altitude areas, such as ski resorts and mountains, it will naturally be much colder, but nowhere near as cold as it should be before the start of the ski season. Even in relatively chilly Zermatt, temperatures will reach almost 18 degrees in the coming days, thanks to the Föhn carrying warm air from northwest Africa through the Alps.
