Following the announcement of new summer routes from SWISS and Edelweiss Air last month, easyJet has now thrown its hat into the ring. The budget airline has confirmed that it will launch five new routes from Zurich next year, connecting the Swiss metropolis to some of Europe’s top holiday destinations.

easyJet to offer 13 routes from Zurich by mid-2025

In a statement, easyJet confirmed that following the launch of its new flights to Manchester and Bordeaux this winter, it would be launching five brand new routes next summer. By the middle of 2025, the budget airline will run 13 different routes from Zurich, alongside those offered from Geneva and Basel.

First, easyJet will launch a daily flight between Zurich and Palma de Mallorca from March 30, 2025. The capital of the Balearic Islands is blessed with stunning historical sites like the castle and cathedral, and serves as a great base from which to explore the enchanting beaches, hills and caves of Mallorca.

Just a day later, the budget carrier will launch a service between Zurich and the Spanish tourist hot spot of Málaga. Four flights will leave the Swiss airport toward the capital of the Costa del Sol every week.

New flights promise easy access to top European destinations

At the beginning of April, easyJet will begin a service to Faro two times a week, giving travellers from Switzerland easy access to the stunning scenery and delectable food offered by Portugal’s Algarve region. History and comedy buffs will also be happy to hear that a twice-weekly flight will be offered between Zurich and the Scottish capital Edinburgh from May 1.

Finally, the Sardinian city of Olbia will welcome four extra plane loads of passengers from Switzerland every week, after easyJet launches its service on June 23.

easyJet looks to compete with SWISS on price

However, plane buffs may notice that while these routes are new for easyJet, most of them are already serviced by other airlines. SWISS already flies directly from Zurich to Palma, Faro, Málaga and Olbia, and will take over the seasonal route to Edinburgh from Edelweiss next summer. 

Instead, easyJet hopes to undercut the flag-carrier airline by offering the flights at a cheaper price. This extra competition should lead to lower prices on all the routes, regardless of which airline you choose to fly.
