Andermatt named one of the most "exciting" travel destinations by BBC

The Andermatt-Sedrun-Disentis region of the Swiss Alps has been named one of the most exciting destinations of 2025 by the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC). The news organisation argued that thanks to new investment, the ski resort is ideal for travellers looking for a holiday off the beaten track.

BBC: Want a Swiss ski holiday without crowds? Try Andermatt

Alongside the rustic hotels and towns of Puglia, the hills and forests of Slovenia and the azure waters of the Portuguese coast, the ski region of Andermatt-Sedrun-Disentis was named one of the “most exciting areas of Europe to visit this year”. Instead of listing the usual suspects for European holidays, the BBC endeavoured to highlight “unsung destinations free from the overcrowding that's caused tourism upheaval”.

For the broadcaster, Andermatt and its 180 kilometres of ski runs represent an off-the-beaten-track resort in the Swiss mountains - at least, for those from outside Switzerland. “It's high time global travellers explored the less-touristed European peaks…This region offers that small Alpine village feel – including a seemingly endless supply of fondue – and fewer crowds than its better-known Swiss counterparts,” the BBC wrote.

New investment in Andermatt promises even better skiing conditions

The BBC’s interest in the region, which straddles Cantons Uri and Graubünden, appears to have been piqued by new investment in the region. Mike Goar, COO of the Vail Resorts area, noted that 110 million francs will be spent modernising Andermatt-Sedrun-Disentis in 2025, such as by installing new snow cannons.

However, it isn’t just skiers and snowboarders who will enjoy the region. The BBC recommended various other spring and summer activities, such as taking the Glacier Express, and visiting the region's lakes and mountains by bike. “Andermatt-Sedrun-Disentis is a truly all-season destination,” they concluded.
