Two major Swiss telecom providers to raise prices in 2023

Two major Swiss telecom providers to raise prices in 2023

Salt. has confirmed that the cost of their mobile phone and internet deals will be increasing from September 2023. The company follows in the footsteps of Sunrise in raising prices this year, with both companies blaming increased operating costs.

Salt. and Sunrise announce price rises for 2023

In a statement given to 20 Minuten, Salt., one of the largest telecommunications providers in Switzerland, announced that the monthly cost of their subscription-based services will increase by 3 percent this September. The rise will apply to all deals with the exception of pay-as-you-go sim cards, mobile phone and data deals that come packaged with devices and contracts between the firm and other businesses.

This is the first time Salt. has increased its prices since 2015, with the company promising that after the rise costs will remain unchanged until at least 2025. The move follows a similar announcement in May when competitor Sunrise confirmed that it was also raising prices by 4 percent from July.

In the statement, Salt. explained that the events of the last 18 months have led to “significantly increased operating costs.” Like Sunrise, they said that increases in the salaries of staff and the rising cost of energy are the main costs they have to compensate for. Salt CEO Maz Nunziata concluded that they will “continue to do everything we can to offer consumers the best possible mobile and broadband offers on the market.”

Will Swisscom raise its prices this year?

With two of the largest mobile phone providers in Switzerland announcing price rises, questions remain whether Swisscom - the largest of all the providers - will also increase costs. Speaking to 20 Minuten, a spokesperson for the company said that while the company has already modified its general conditions to allow prices to rise in line with inflation, they see no need to raise prices before the end of 2024.
