International Cliff Diving Championship
The International Cliff Diving Championship has been held at Ponte Brolla for more than 25 years and is a highly prized location to dive for those in the circuit. This competition always draws some of the top contenders in cliff diving from around the world. The narrow gorge they dive into makes for spectacular viewing and real heart-in-mouth moments.
What is happening at the International Cliff Diving Championship
Despite being one of the key fixtures for top-class athletes, there is always time to welcome new contenders, and even new challengers can sign up to take part until July 15. They get to show off their skills on the afternoon of Friday, July 26, while the big competition is on Saturday, July 27. The morning is free practice time, with the hopefully-perfected dives coming between 1pm and 5pm.
The Sunday is only used in case the weather is too poor for the championship to take place on Saturday.

Attending the International Cliff Diving Championship
Spectators are very welcome, and it's free to attend. The location is truly out-of-this-world beautiful, so pack a picnic blanket, put on your walking boots and find a clifftop spot to watch the drama from.
There is no parking near the site, so people are requested to travel to the spot by public transport. You can get there easily by taking the bus to Ponte Brolla, Stazione or the train to Ponte Brolla. The site is then just a two-minute walk away, along the cliff top. Ponte Brolla itself is just 10 minutes by local transport from Locarno, which is well connected to other Swiss cities by long-distance trains.
