Yodelling festival sends hotel prices spiralling in Zug
A yodelling festival set to be hosted in Zug has driven up the price of a one-night stay in the city’s hotels. Hotel prices during the festival, which is taking place on the weekend of June 17, are now between 400 and 1.500 Swiss francs a night.
More than 150.000 people set to attend Zug yodelling festival
The Federal Yodelling Festival is set to take place in Zug over the weekend, attracting more than 150.000 visitors who come to see a true piece of Swiss culture. After years of not being able to host the festival due to COVID-19, visitors are set to descend on the Swiss city once again.

As the area prepares to welcome the first yodellers, there is a problem: "The hotels have been fully booked for several weeks, if not months," Dominic Keller, Managing Director of Zug Tourism, told the Zuger Zeitung. Because of the rush, other venues such as campsites, schools and civil defence facilities are being converted to accommodate the influx of festival guests.
One night in Zug for 454 Swiss francs
According to Blick, the two hotel rooms that remain unbooked in Zug are available for 454 Swiss francs per night, at the cheapest. The other option that the newspaper was able to find was only available for over 1.500 Swiss francs per night.
Options for rented apartments are not much better either. According to the newspaper, Airbnb is offering apartments in central Zug for around 700 Swiss francs a night over the weekend. City dwellers who are not currently staying in Zug are able to make a pretty penny by subletting their home - with one even offering a one-night stay on their boat for 697 Swiss francs.
